We live in a time where information has never been more accessible. With smartphones and search engines, we can find quick answers to any question, definitions to any phrase and instructions for any activity. For those of us trying to make sense of the Christian faith, what we desire is clarity- a sense of do’s and don’ts that help us navigate life. Since we have access to the Bible, finding answers to our questions should be easy, but many of us came from religious traditions where “easy answers” were empty answers. The truth is that Christianity is not easy- it is not simple and straightforward, with clear rules and identifiable boundaries. Christianity is, in a word: MESSY, and the challenge of living a life that honors Christ is learning how to navigate the mess. There was a church in the ancient city of Corinth that was facing the same challenge, and we will explore one of Paul’s letters to them that addresses how to live in and among the messiness of competing values, different beliefs and complex situations.

This series begins April 15th.

This Week – Hezekiah

More is written about King Hezekiah in the Bible than any other Jewish king with the exception of David, and it is easy to understand why. When Hezekiah ruled the world, he followed God wholeheartedly, and much of his rule over the nation of Judah was marked by God’s blessing. It is a simple task to acknowledge God when life is easy and things go our way, but what about when life gets difficult? Hezekiah was faced with a situation all of us will eventually face- how to respond when life treats us in a way we don’t believe we deserve. When a relationship with God stops benefiting us and begins costing us, what do we do then?

This Week – Ahab

There is a life pattern that, if left unchecked, is so deadly as to derail your life and cause catastrophic damage to those around you. While many people in the Bible showed flashes of it, King Ahab was a ruler who nearly typified it. When we get this thing wrong, we will live in uncertainty and chaos. But when we get it right, we will experience God’s peace and be an encouragement to others around us.
